I was a migraine sufferer. I would find myself in bed three or four days a week. I would cry out to God, "Please help me. I want my life back!" My migraines planned my life. I was unable to function as a part of my family. Finally, I went to my family doctor for help. The diagnosis?
He said, "You have migraine headaches - there isn't a cure." He started to write quickly on his prescription pad, tore it off and shoved it at me. "Here, take this and it will control your migraines." He started to walk out of the examination room.
I asked, "What is causing my migraines?" He said, "I already told you. You have migraines. This medication will help you control the migraines." he turned to attempt to leave again.
I asked again. "Why is my body reacting like this?" He didn't give an answer, but grabbed the door knob of the examing room.
"Doc, " I said deperately, "What do these pills do?"
Getting a little annoyed by now because I was well over the average doctor's visit of three minutes, he said, "The medication will enlarge the blood vesself of your brain and control your migraines." He left.
I got to my car and burst into tears! I don't want to have a stroke from having my blood vessels enlarge and go normal repeatedly! That day marked my quest to learn why my body was reacting with pain. I started back to school and got busy learning.
You will read about the common "triggers" of a migraine, but this blog isn't for what most people know. Like what? A common trigger is red wine or MSG. Well, you may find some of the common triggers mentioned here, but mostly you will find the answers no one wants to tell you because it would be bad for their business. We'll go into this later in this blog.
Now the great news: I do not suffer from migraines anymore. Yes, I am migraine free. Here's how you can have less migraines immediately from just reading this one blog. Ready? Don't eat hydrogenated oil. That's partially hydrogentated oil, too. Check the ingredient list for your contract for the food you buy. The front of the label is called the "adver-teasing" so you will buy the food product. Can't find any truth there!!
If the ingredient list says: hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil - it is a trigger! Will the migraine happen 30 minutes after you eat it? I wish, then more people would connect the food they are eating with the migraine they are having. Typically, it took my body 24 hours to process this oil and let me know there was a problem with the oil. What words did my body say? P - A - I - N !!
This one ingredient is every where in the Standard American Diet (initials SAD). We call it margarine, crisco, vegetable oil, palm oil - read the labels. It is found in all store-bought cookies, baked good, breads and most processed foods in general.
Try not eating it, you'll be pleasantly surprised by experiencing less pain.

If you take this medication, please read this from Topamax’s website: “Other serious risks include increased eye pressure (glaucoma), decreased sweating, increased body temperature, kidney stones, sleepiness, dizziness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating.”
Please realize ALL medication has a side effect. But, when you are in the middle of a migraine attack, who cares? Cutting my head off was okay by me. Little did I know then that I could reduce my risk of getting another migraine with a few lifestyle changes.
What is like to have a migraine instead of a headache? Well, what is a minnow compared to a whale? If a headache is a minnow, then a migraine is a whale. Rarely does anyone think of the side effects of the pain medication! Or should I have said, “NEVER?” Relief is the only word that has any value to a migraine sufferer.
But, did you know that you can prepare for the next migraine. Prepare? Sure, the problem with Topamax is you keep going back for more and more. But, what about the concept of preparing during the migraine off time that you have?
Because there will come a time when Topamax doesn’t work any more. Then what? You graduate to taking an injection? Your body is resisting the medication because it has a message to deliver to you. Yes, your body is trying desperately to communicate with you. What does your body want to say?

1) put down that diet drink and no one will get hurt. Yes, fake, man-made sugar causes many migraine sufferer’s lost time out of their life and confined to a dark room. If you need the “caffeine fix” switch to regular soft drink. Try it and see if you have less migraines. No, regular soft drinks won’t make you gain weight.
